YOUNG TALENT PROGRAM: Si Bangalore m’était conté by Archana Narendran
All day | 1st – 21st of June | Alliance Française Atrium
Opening night on 1st June at 7.00 pm
The second artist of this series is Archana Narendran. Archana, an architect by profession and an illustrator by passion, is a postgraduate student in Architectural studies, with an elective in Drawing as Research from the Glasgow School of Art, University of Glasgow. Her ongoing work is based on Bangalore, a collection of artwork depicting today’s Bangalore and few of the memorable locations in the city. She mostly works on pen rendering and the day-to day activities, architecture, cities and culture are the biggest inspirations for heart.
Archana Narendra draws. The city is her inspiration. She is part of it. She offers us selected snapshots of it, the way youngsters will capture images on their phones. She travels in a rickshaw, she wants to immortalise a street scene happening just in front of her, she pulls out her sketch book and draws. Watching her works, one can feel the moment. It is immediate; the time is frozen; the movement had stopped. To make sure one does understand what stroke her, she highlights elements with watercolours. A red wall here; a pink train there : she drops vivid colours as if she was making a mental note. Perhaps for her to remember. Perhaps to guide her through her very rich drawings. – Franck Barthélémy
