PURUSH is an idea of attenDANCE History Society to project, promote and platform the Purush Anga – the male solo dancer. For a decade, dance scholar- historian Ashish Khokar has taken this issue up due to declining number of male solo dancers in India. In each form, less than a handful are left and others are either doing group ensemble work or husband wife duets.
This is third such edition, the first two successfully having also travelled to ten cities in the USA, France, Italy. In this season of Spring, all five male dancers will choose that – Vasant – as the theme. The five dancers chosen and curated by KHOKAR are : Anil Iyer in Bharatanatyam; Aneesh Raghvan in Orissi; Gururaj in Kuchipudi; B.P.Sweekruth in Kathak and Vishwa of Nritarutya in modern dance. Each an upcoming talent, much acclaimed already.
