Event name: उई (UEE)
Language : Hindi
Brief Synopsis:
उई (UEE)
How are superstitions formed? How are superstitions perceived? Who wins in
the tussle between superstitions and reality? Can superstitions surpass reality
and becomes the ultimate truth? Or can reality and rationality find its own
space within the domination of superstitions?
These are some of the questions that ‘UEE’ deals with. ‘UEE’ is the story of
four girls from a different background but living under the same
circumstances. It is a hostel, run by Tulasi and assisted by Sapna where
Akshata, Anamika and Karuna lives, who are soon joined by Preeti, a sweet,
docile girl. Each character has their own belief, about love, men, sex,
marriage etc., which has emerged and sustained with their experiences as
well as through the passage of time and each of these beliefs questions the
age – old, rooted principles of the society and tries to seek an answer to
some of the common issues and concerns faced by women in their everyday
lives. ‘UEE’ does not aim to provide any solution nor it aims to be a
comforting blanket to any problems, but what it intends is to shift the mind of
the audience and give them a chance to think and analyse and be their own
judge to decide which is right or wrong.
‘UEE’ is an original translation of the marathi play ‘Thashta,’ written by Sanjay
Pawar in 2013 and later translated by Sandeep Paranjape in 2015 introduces
the four female characters, giving each of them very specific identity.
Nonetheless, they get along with each other keeping their individuality alive.
With innumerable twists and turns, the play will make the audience relate to
the characters and thus reach to their own conclusion.
