La Fête de la Musique
June 2026
Celebrate the Month of Music with Alliance Française de Bangalore
The Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is an annual celebration held every year on June 21st. On this day, streets, parks, cultural spaces, and public squares turn into open stages, bringing together musicians and audiences in a shared celebration of music.
The festival was officially launched in France in 1982 by Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, and Maurice Fleuret, Director of Music and Dance. Their aim was to make music accessible to everyone and to encourage both amateur and professional musicians to perform freely in public spaces.
The date, June 21st, marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, making it ideal for outdoor celebrations. What began in Paris has since grown into a global cultural movement, now celebrated in more than 120 countries and over 1,000 cities worldwide.
What is happening in Bangalore
This June, on the occasion of World Music Day, Alliance Française de Bangalore will be hosting a series of musical events celebrating creativity, performance, and community.
The month begins with two special performances by French artist Bertrand Devendeville, who will present bAlllAd, a unique public-space performance in Bangalore on 13 and 14 June 2026.
The celebrations will continue throughout June with a variety of music events. As part of World Music Day, Alliance Française de Bangalore will open its venue to several music schools across Bangalore, offering artists a stage to showcase their talent.
The performances will bring together a wide range of musical styles, from Western music and karaoke to Indian classical music, creating a vibrant and inclusive celebration of music in all its forms.
