YOUNG TALENT PROGRAM: Blurring Boundaries by Priyanka Ella Lorena

All day | 20th of April – 10th of May | Alliance Française Atrium

Opening night on 20th April, 7 pm.

After a successful first series of the Young Talent Program, the Alliance française de Bangalore is proud to present to you the second series. The first artist of this series is Priyanka Ella Lorena. Priyanka is a Fashion Designer based out of Bangalore who has her own Designer Label – P.E.L.L.A. She considers herself an artist at heart and treats fabrics like her canvas. She believes in the Wabi-sabi philosophy of creating aesthetics through deliberate imperfections. It stimulates the viewer to draw beauty out of it for oneself – beauty of things humble and simple in nature, slow and uncluttered, beauty of things pure and unadulterated.  She describes her designs as water, taking the shape of any vessel it is contained in. For this exhibition, Priyanka will be showcasing miniature versions of her creations which would be mounted into frames as a 3D installation.

For many years, experts kept fashion and art separate. There was a clear boundary between fashion designers and visual artists. Then came St Laurent and Mondrian or Schiaparelli and Dali as well as Picasso and Parade or De Chirico and Les Ballets Russes. Designers got inspired by artists and artists got excited by fashion. Though a fashion designer by training and profession, Priyanka Lama made her young emerging fashion journey an art experience. Her designs, her fabric, her photographs and her sets are forming a practise that floats somewhere between art and artisanat. A promising exhibition without doubt ! – Franck Barthélémy
