The Alliance Française de Bangalore is hosting an exhibition of paintings by children from October 12 to 21. These paintings were done by 16 children over the last three years while attending Sunday morning art classes conducted by Balan Nambiar, at his residence. The exhibition is to celebrate 40th anniversary of the art class.
A similar exhibition was held at the same venue in November 2008.
Balan Nambiar has held free art classes for children between the ages of 6 and 12 years since 1971. Over 2000 children have attended his classes.
Here are some insights into Balan Nambiar’s methodology. No child is allowed to copy from another picture. The children may use any medium, including pastels, water colours, poster colours or pencils. Nambiar never tampers with the pictures of his students. Instead, he shows them how not to spoil their work or improve their work. The result? Each student’s individuality and creativity are nurtured and enhanced.
Balan Nambiar believes that all children celebrate and respond to colour as they do to music. This intuitive response in the child is impacted by the ambience at home, faulty methodology at school and the use of poor quality art material.
Every child is a potential artist. Come celebrate their creativity at the Alliance Française.
