Spastics Society of Karnataka (SSK) (Centre for Developmental Disabilities) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the welfare of children and young adults with Neuro-Muscular disorders (Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disability, Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other Multiple Disabilities).

From a humble beginning of providing special education services to 4 children on its rolls in 1982, today the society annually provides rehabilitation services to more than 3500 children with Neuro-Muscular and Developmental disabilities in main center and its various sub centres. the society completed 30 years of dedicated service to special children and their families in the year 2011. The age of children and adolescents receiving the services range from infancy to 20 years. Nearly 80% of the children are from the undeserved and under privileged sections of the population.

In the year 2014-15 we started RTAM (Reaching out through Arts-Music & Movement), a fine arts project. The rationale of the project is that the reach of fine arts has hardly any barriers or boundaries. Every child is capable of benefiting in their own way from being exposed to music and dance.

This year, we have planned to stage a children’s musical, based on the Kannada folk tale by A.K.Ramanujan – “A Flowering Tree”. The purpose of the musical is to provide a suitable platform for the varied skills our children posses and through that, to encourage Inclusion. 90 to 100 students will be participating in this and there are 10 to 15 children on wheel chairs.
