What is Biomimicry?
Biomimicry is a multidisciplinary scientific design discipline where patterns and strategies found in nature are emulated/mimicked to find sustainable and better solutions to human challenges.

The Biomimicry India Network’s mission is to spread awareness about biomimicry in India and provide a common platform to people who are interested in biomimicry to meet and cross pollinate ideas. Towards that we hold talks and workshops, both free for public and at educational institutions for students.

Participant Profiles:

Shri.Harish Bhat is a scientist in the field of habitat ecology and wildlife biology at Energy and Wetland Research Group, Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.Highly knowledgeable on birds and plants of Western Ghats, he has authored several books. He has also served as Honorary Wildlife Warden, Bangalore, is a Member of Biodiversity Management Committee and a member in the CBSE syllabus committee, Directorate for text books, Govt. of Karnataka . He is also a recipient of the prestigious Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, Govt. of Karnataka, for science literature. His book, “Pakshi Prapancha” Birds of Karnataka, won the Pusthaka Sogasu (Best book of the year 2006) award, given by Kannada Pusthaka Pradhikara, Govt. of Karnataka. and also won Kannada Sahitya Academy award, Govt. of karnataka for science literature in 2006. His vast experience in environmental education and reaching out to children is unmatched.

Mr. Vijay Thiruvady spent his early years in Delhi. His academic interests were pursued in St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and School of Architecture in Ahmedabad. In Delhi he had exposure to the world of nature and environment through association with a number of people and institutions, in addition to taking part in a number of treks from Kashmir to Sikkim. Professionally, Mr. Thiruvady has been in the Oil & Gas and Petrochemical Industry for the last 30 years, having worked for and represented in India, Tata Consulting Engineers, John Brown Engineers & Constructors Ltd, UK, AMEC UK and John Zink Company. Thiruvady was also involved in the setting up of John Brown Engineering India of which he was a Promoter/Director. The main thrust in his professional life was to bring in and market technologies and the engineering capabilities of the various companies he was associated with. These activities continue today, though in a smaller way.

Mr. Thiruvady has always been interested in various aspects of nature and has been instrumental in bringing the ‘connection’ and knowledge of nature to thousands people through the Green Heritage Walks in Lalbagh (http://www.bangalorewalks.com/html/musings.html) . He also participates in the various activities of Bangalore Environment Trust as a Trustee – currently, these include the preparation of a Heritage Tree Register/book and studies of Devarakadus/Gundutopus and large wooded institutional areas in Bangalore.

Biomimicry India founder profiles:

Prashant Dhawan is the Co-founder of the Biomimicry India and the Head of the Biomimicry Lab at (http://srishti.ac.in/centers-and-labs/biomimicry-lab). He holds a degree in Architecture from SPA Delhi, a post graduate program in management from ISB Hyderabad , and he is pursuing the MS (Master of Science ) in Biomimicry from the Arizona State University, U.S.A along with Biomimicry Professional Certification Program conducted by  Biomimicry 3.8, USA .

Prashant sees himself and prefers to call himself an amateur researcher of  sustainable happiness.

Seema Anand is a Biomimicry Specialist (Biomimicry 3.8 Institute, USA, 2011) & a practicing Architect in Bangalore.  With a focus on working towards sustainable habitats, she considers Biomimicry as a ‘lighthouse’ that will guide her approach to design and problem solving.

She is the co-founder of “Biomimicry India Network”, a network which aims to spread awareness and catalyze biomimicry in India. She is also the co-founder of “Biomimicry India Lab and Studio”, a company which consults and undertakes research in the field of biomimicry.

Seema and Prashant have been instrumental in spreading awareness and teaching Biomimicry in India. They have conducted talks and workshops about Biomimicry in various educational institutions in India as also in China.
