“In the Himalayas the air is as polluted as in European cities”: it is with this choking title that the public has been informed in october 2008 of the latest results of the atmospheric measurements made at the foot of the Everest, more than 5000 meters above see level.

Un nuage sur le toit du monde
In the majestic high valley of Khumbu, we can see a dark cloud reaching out in the morning, often masking the mountain tops. This phenomenon happens during the dry season.

After the discovery of a gigantic pollution cloud over the Indian ocean, a Franco-Italian scientific team revealed for the first time an impressive amount of soot particles for such a virgin space as the high himalayan tops. Satellite images from the houses of Nepalese households as well as in a pyramid of glass, laboratory of the future implemented at an altitude of 5000 meters, the film investigates this phenomenon that highlights links between pollution, global warming, hydraulic system and regional agriculture. It follows multidisciplinary teams studying interdependence between air, snow, water and ice; seeking for possible ways out.
