Alicia Cabrero, 2014, 35 mins

A screening organised by Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, with the support of Alliance française de Bangalore.

“Clémence” was created in 2014. The film has won prize as the best project of the year from the “High Conservatory Professional of Dance in Madrid”. It was projected in Festivals in Spain and France. It is a 35 min. film dance where the language of movement, interpretation and image come together to tell the story and experiences of Clemence, the protagonist. The silent film, the belle epoque, Tango and Charleston are present in honor to the first half of twentieth century in France.
Clemence suffers a sudden change in her life, forcing her to confront new situations within her environment. Contact with the other realities modifies her. She discovers how a simple gesture can affect her sensitivity as a woman.

About the dancer – choreographer: Alicia Cabrero
Born in Madrid 1986, Alicia started her dance studies (career) in the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza de Madrid, continued her education in the field of Choreography in Conservatorio Superior de Danza “ Maria de Ávila” in Madrid. In 2009 she obtained a grant in Rotterdam Dance Academy (CODARTS) where she started her career as a choreographer. Within 5 years she became part of Ballet Opera de Limoges.
At present she works as a freelance dancer and teacher (currently on a teaching residency with Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, Bengaluru teaching the diploma and sankshipta students) and at the same time she introduces camera in her creations. She works to discover the possibilities with the camera to create pieces which could make contemporary dance reach the public who are not familiarized with this type of artistic expression.
