A MOLIERE WEEKEND!

June 22,23 & 24

A double-bill

Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known by his stage name Moliere was a 16th Century French playwright and actor who is considered to be one of the greatest masters of comedy in Western literature. Known for his satirical wit and his penchant for taking potshots at the hypocrisies of society, Moliere used to mirror few instances of his own life into his plays, sometimes landing himself into quite a spot of trouble. We present a Moliere weekend in which  the actors bring to life the spirit and the creative genius of the playwright. As the story continues, the similarities between Moliere’s life and his plays seem to be endless…… and it seems, that his observations are valid even today. .Moliere’s plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed at the Comédie-Française more often than those of any other playwright today.

SGANARELLE, sometimes known as The Imaginary Cuckold, a classic Moliere comic tale of young love, mix-ups and confusion.Sganarelle is the first independent production of Rotary Theatre Club, set up in partnership with BLT.

Salam Moliere is a tribute to the darling of King Louis IV, the mercurial,  mesmeric, the masala maker of the French theatre, Moliere. We take you on a colourful journey filled with  laughter and madness with Moliere’s most famous comedies. Salaam Moliere is one in a series from BLT’s new programme thrust called Courtyard Theatre.
