Dance DISCourse and the Alliance Française de Bangalore present

Contemporary Explorations by

Mayuri and Madhuri Upadhya’s Nritarutya & Tushar and Pooja Bhatt

Saturday 1st June, 6:30 pm, AFB Auditorium

While Indian classical art forms rule the roost in Bangalore, the most cosmopolitan city in India, the Alliance Française-Ashish Khokar Dance DISCourse Series will share trends in contemporary or youth cultures. Modern Indian dance is in transition. The evening will begin with a short film on history of choreography in India, with snippets from various works down the ages (1930s-2010).

This episode will showcase bright examples of what’s happening in Bangalore today: Contemporary artistes choreographers Mayuri-Madhuri Upadhya’s Nritarutya will present new works from forms known to them (yoga, chhau, kathak, taichi),  and two traditionally trained dancers, Tushar-Pooja Bhatt, will use Kathak for contemporary explorations. The evening will end with discussions with the dancer-choreographers.
