Am Embassy of Sweden Presentation

Jan Lundgren is a Swedish jazz pianist, well-known for both his solo work and his jazz trio.

Lundgren had his first piano lesson at age five. He was soon found to have an exceptional musical talent. After a period of classical training, he discovered jazz by chance in the late 1980s.

Lundgren has always tried to utilize his phenomenal technique to enhance his musicality. His ability to integrate the most disparate musical influences into a fascinating whole is unique in itself.

His debut album “Conclusion”, released in 1994, propelled his career firmly forward. The following year saw the formation of the Jan Lundgren Trio. David Andersson (bass) and Zoltan Csörsz Jr (drums) form part of the Trio today. The band has recorded seven well-received and commercially very successful albums.

Jan Lundgren is part of a remarkable and long tradition of innovative pianists from Sweden like Jan Johansson, Bobo Stenson and Esbjörn Svensson. He has played with many international jazz giants including Arne Domnérus, Putte Wickman, Herb Geller, Johnny Griffin and Mark Murphy.
