YOUNG TALENT PROGRAM: Carnets de Voyage by Simon Lamouret

All day | 21st of January – 10th of February | Alliance Française Atrium

In the sixth exhibition of the 2015 series, Alliance Francaise will exhibit artworks of Simon Lamouret. Simon is a young french graphic novelist currently living and teaching in Bangalore, and the first French candidate of the program. He gets his inspiration mostly from “real life” that he tries to turn into personal works. His media is mainly Graphic novel but he also does illustrations and draws constantly. He is currently teaching graphic design in a reputed Design School in Bangalore. As he likes to say, “I’m not a journalist, I’m not an artist, I’m not a story teller, I’m not a traveller but I try to be a little bit of all those things.”

“Pliny the Elder reported that Dibutades, a potter’s daughter from Corinth, made the first drawing. Her beloved friend was to travel away from the city. In order to remember him, she marked the contour of the boy’s head on a wall, following the shadow produced by a lamp’s light.
Simon Lamouret also finds his inspiration in real life and through graphic novels creates travel logs. The French artist being in Bangalore, he naturally tells us his experience of the city with comic strips and illustrations. Detailed, rich and sharp, the drawings reflect his observations of the city as well as his feelings … sometimes his criticisms. Surely a very personal show not to be missed !” – Franck Barthélémy

Opening night on 21st January, 7.30 pm.

YTP logoThe Young Talent Program is a new project of the Alliance française that aims to promote the local visual artists of Bangalore through a unique platform that will showcase 6 to 8 exhibitions each year of some of the most promising young artists. Curated by Franck Barthélémy and Balan Nambiar, the program intends to push and support the career of the selected artists and to diffuse more widely their work by giving them a field and a place to express their art.
